Checking The Component

Check the generator (GEN) brushes (carbon). If the brushes are worn, replace the alternator control module (ACM). Check that the brushes can move in the regulator housing. The brushes are lightly sprung. At the same time, check the slip rings. Replace the generator (GEN) if they are worn out.

If the carbon brushes and slip rings appear to be OK, try a new alternator control module (ACM) (charge regulator). If this does not help, try a new generator (GEN).

HINT: Another test to check the alternator's function is to perform Quicktest of alternator function. Found in VIDA vehicle communication under Central electronic module (CEM). 

Remedy as necessary.
