Signals For Control Modules Without DSTC (C30/S40/V50)

The table below summarizes the input signals to and output signals from the brake control module (BCM). The signal types are divided into directly connected signals, serial communication and controller area network (CAN) communication. The illustration below displays the same information with the Volvo component designations.

Input signals Output signals
Directly connected:  Directly connected:
Four Wheel sensors  (7/31, 7/32, 7/56, 7/57)
Pedal position sensor  (7/124)
-
Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication:  Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication:
Central electronic module (CEM)  (4/56). Provides information about the car configuration.
Transmission control module (TCM)  (4/28): Provides information about the present gear, next gear and lock-up status (automatic transmission only).
Engine control module (ECM)  (4/46):
  • Via the central electronic module (CEM): The signal indicates if the engine is running or not, the present engine speed (RPM) and the present torque
  • Indicates the driver's intentions concerning acceleration or deceleration for calculating the stability control (STC only)
  • Indicates whether the stop lamp switch is active or not.

Climate control module (CCM)  (3/112). Provides information about activation/deactivation of stability control via the STC switch on the tunnel console.
Differential electronic module (DEM)  (4/82). Indicates the torque distribution to the rear wheels and the function status (TRACS AWD only).
Driver information module (DIM)  (5/1):
  • Vehicle speed
  • Receives a request to light the ABS and brake warning lamp as well as the traction control warning lamp in the combined instrument panel
  • Receives a request about which text message should be displayed in the combined instrument panel.

Transmission control module (TCM)  (4/28):
  • Vehicle speed
  • Indicates whether ABS, stability or traction control is active
  • Receives a request to delay a gear shift in the event of a substantial speed difference in the front wheels
  • Receives information about the position of the pedal position sensor.

Engine control module (ECM)  (4/46):
  • Vehicle speed
  • Indicates whether ABS, stability or traction control is active
  • Receives a request to decrease torque during stability control
  • Receives information about the position of the pedal position sensor.

Infotainment control module (ICM)  (16/1):
  • Receives information about the rotation speed of the front wheels. Used to measure distance
  • Receives information about the traveled distance, used when the Global Positioning System makes calculations.

Differential electronic module (DEM)  (4/82). Receives information about the brake function (TRACS AWD only).
