The tailgate is locked and unlocked at the same time as other doors if an unlock command is received from the remote key or if the vehicle is passively unlocked. The tailgate can also be unlocked separately using a specific button on remote key or via switch on the light switch module (LSM).

The handle on the tailgate is directly connected to the Keyless vehicle module (KVM) and Power Operated Tailgate Module (POT) (option).

If the vehicle is locked and the switch is pressed in, the Keyless vehicle module (KVM) activates the antenna in the tailgate and searches for a valid remote key. If a valid key is found, the Keyless vehicle module (KVM) transmits a signal to the Central electronic module (CEM), which unlocks the lock in the tailgate. The lock unit in the tailgate (3/78) is directly connected to the Central electronic module (CEM), Keyless vehicle module (KVM) and Power Operated Tailgate Module (POT).
