Rear Seat Entertainment Module (RSE)/DVD-Player
Rear seat entertainment module (RSE) is the central unit in the system for rear seat entertainment.
The control module is integrated with the DVD player and is located in the storage tray in the center console. In XC90 it is located at the rear edge of the center console.
The control module interprets and executes the commands given by the user with the system's infrared remote control. These commands are transmitted from the remote control to Rear seat entertainment module (RSE) via system's infrared receivers in the screens. Rear seat entertainment module (RSE) also distributes current to the system's other components.
The Rear seat entertainment module (RSE) distributes audio and video signals from the DVD player or digital TV receiver to the screen and speakers in the system. Other audio and video sources can be connected via external inputs (AV panel), for example, games consoles or video cameras.
There is an internal CAN network between the Rear seat entertainment module (RSE)/DVD-player and the screens for the transfer of information. This CAN network is not connected to the vehicle's ordinary CAN network.
The DVD player mechanism has an anti-shock system and it helps to prevent the image or sound skipping when played. The DVD player has slot-in disc insertion and region coding programmed into the software. The region code can be changed using a security code.
The following media formats can be played by the DVD player:
- DVD-R/+R
- DVD-RW/+RW
- CD-R and CD-RW
- CDDA
- HDCD
The following information formats can be played:
- DVD

The control module is supplied with power from the Ext. X-supply in the Central electronic module (CEM) and directly from the battery.
To easily check whether the control module is powered and grounded, switch on the ignition. The background illumination on the function buttons should then come on.
