Condition

The gear selector module (GSM) is located at the rear edge of the gear shift assembly's left side. The Gear selector module (GSM) communicates with the Transmission control module (TCM) via an internal network, Local Interconnect Network (LIN), to activate the shift-lock function among other things.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module detects that:

• The circuit to solenoid P-position inhibitor is open when the output on the solenoid's drive step is active.

The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of:

• Ignition on.

Substitute Value 

• Gear selector blocked.

Possible Source 

• Contact resistance in the terminals.
• Open-circuit in the signal cable.
• Open-circuit in the ground lead.
• Internal fault in gear selector module (GSM).

Fault symptom[s] 

• Gear selector stuck in position P
• Automatic transmission/Possible to change gears, Shift lock does not work
• Text window and warning symbol/Yellow symbol and text message
