The Phone Module (PHM) (16/60) does not have its own menu keypad. It is controlled either via the keypad on the Climate Control Module (CCM) (4/6) or via the steering wheel buttons. For navigating menus via the keypad, the Climate Control Module (CCM) sends signals for menu navigation to the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) (4/185) via CAN. For menu navigation via the steering wheel buttons the information is sent from the Steering Wheel Module (SWM) (3/130) to the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) via LIN communication. The Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) then sends the signals on to the Phone Module (PHM) via USB communication.

Menu navigation is displayed to the user on the front screen. Information is sent from the Phone Module (PHM) to the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) via USB communication. During start-up of the Phone Module (PHM), during incoming calls and when using the telephone, a request about display on the screen is sent to the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU).

The internal T-Sim card can also be used for calls (applies to the USA market, vehicles with structure week 201446-) :

During handsfree calls, the microphone and speaker which are connected to the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) (4/185) and Audio Control Module (AUD) (16/105) are used. The Phone Module (PHM) transmits a request to the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) to access the Audio Control Module (AUD) speaker and microphone. Communication between the Phone Module (PHM), Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) and Audio Control Module (AUD) is via MOST communication.
