Oil Pressure/Oil Level/Warning

The oil pressure sensor is connected to the engine control module (ECM) (4/46). The engine control module (ECM) transmits the oil pressure signal onward via the high speed section of CAN. The central electronic module (CEM) (4/56) receives the signal and generates a corresponding signal on the low speed section of CAN. The driver information module (DIM) (5/1) receives the signal. If the oil pressure is low, the driver information module (DIM) lights a red warning lamp and displays a message to warn the driver.

For information about whether the vehicle is equipped with an oil pressure or oil level sensor, see appropriate Design and Function information for the Engine control module (ECM).

If the vehicle does not have an oil dipstick, the oil level is displayed in the Driver information module (DIM) depending on the engine version. The oil level is displayed in the trip computer in the DIM. These vehicles have an indicator that shows the actual oil level. From the indicator you can read out whether the vehicle has a high, low or correct oil level.

On some engine versions, oil level is determined while driving; the vehicle must be driven for 20-25 min in order for the driver information module to show the current oil level. The level shown in the driver information module (DIM) when the ignition is switched on is the measured level from the last driving cycle.

Note however that the warning lamp and message in the driver information module (DIM) will still be shown while driving if the oil pressure is too low.
