Description Of Activations For Components And Functions: Component/Function

ENGINE COOLING FAN

The engine cooling fan is controlled to the stated speed; 0 %, 50 % or 100 % of the maximum speed.

The function is checked by listening for fan noise.

EVAP VALVE

The EVAP valve is controlled to open and close at a fixed frequency, which can be heard or felt by holding the valve.

The function is checked by listening or feeling the valve.

AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) RELAY

The A/C relay is controlled to the stated position.

The function is checked by listening for a clicking noise from the relay, as well as the performance of the climate units.

AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) COMPRESSOR

The A/C compressor's control valve is controlled to the stated position; 0 %, 50 % or 100 % of maximal deployment. The compressor's displacement thus changes.

NOTE:

Engine idling.

The function is checked by listening for small noise changes from the engine.

THROTTLE UNIT

The throttle is controlled to the stated position; 0 %, 25 %, 50 %, 75 % or 100 % open.

NOTE:

The engine must be off to perform the activation.

The function is checked by simultaneously evaluating the readout value of the "Throttle position", circuit 1" and "Throttle position", circuit 2".

TURBOCHARGER (TC) CONTROL VALVE

The turbocharger (TC) control valve, also known as the turbocharger (TC) control valve wastegate, is controlled to the stated position; 0 % or 100 % open.

NOTE:

Engine off, ignition on

The function is checked by listening for noise from the valve.

RELIEF VALVE

The relief valve, also called the turbocharger (TC) control valve bypass, is controlled to the stated position.

NOTE:

Engine off, ignition on

The function is checked by listening for noise from the valve.

SUPERCHARGER CLUTCH

The supercharger clutch is controlled to the stated position, i.e. the compressor to 0 % or 70 % connected.

NOTE:

Engine idling.

The function is checked by listening for noise changes when the compressor is engaged or disengaged.

SUPERCHARGER CONTROL VALVE BYPASS

Supercharger control valve bypass is controlled to the stated position.

0% = the valve is closed, all air is routed into the compressor.

100% = the valve is open, no air is routed into the compressor.

NOTE:

Engine off, ignition on

The function is checked by listening for noise from the valve.

ELECTRIC COOLANT PUMP

The electric coolant pump is controlled to 0 %, 50 % or 100 % of maximum speed.

NOTE:

The engine must be switched off. The coolant temperature must be below 115°C.

The function is checked by simultaneously listening for noise from the pump and flow. Flow can be confirmed by feeling the coolant hoses.

CAUTION:

Beware of the fan blades on the engine cooling fan.

"CHECK-ENGINE" LAMP

The engine electronics lamp, also known as the "check-engine" lamp is controlled to lit respectively off.

The function is checked by simultaneously looking to see if the lamp illuminates and goes out according to the activation.

CONTROL VALVE, ENGINE OIL PUMP

The control valve for the engine oil pump is controlled by the stated control signal, 0 %, 50 % or 80 %.

0% = The control valve is not activated (return sprung position), high pump flow, high oil pressure.

100% = The control valve is fully activated, low pump flow, low oil pressure.

NOTE:

The engine must be at idle.

The function must be checked by simultaneously monitoring changes of the oil pressure with the "Engine oil pressure" parameter.

HINT: Also see "Testing oil pressure control" under Advanced by way of VIDA.

INTAKE CAMSHAFT CONTROL VALVE

The reset valve for the camshaft on the intake side is controlled by the stated control signal, 0 %, 50 % or 100 %.

100 % = Camshaft fully affected.

The function is checked by listening to changes in engine noise, as well as by checking the parameter "Camshaft's shift angle, intake".

EXHAUST CAMSHAFT CONTROL VALVE

The reset valve for the camshaft on the exhaust side is controlled by the stated control signal, 0 %, 50 % or 100 %.

100 % = Camshaft fully affected.

The function is checked by listening to changes in engine noise, as well as by checking the parameter "Camshaft's shift angle, exhaust".
