Control Module

The control module and camera are integrated and designated Parking Assistance Camera (PAC). When reverse gear is engaged, with the ignition on or engine running, the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is activated (on the condition that the auto activation option is on in the menu on the infotainment control module (ICM)). The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) can also be activated via a button on the climate control module (CCM).

For the Japanese market (only applies to the XC60) there is also a side view camera located in the left-hand door mirror as well as a switch located under the passenger seat. The switch is for switching the image from between the side view camera and the camera in the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC).

Upon activation a picture is shown on the screen in Infotainment control module (ICM) (in the document also called screen) of what is behind the vehicle.

The screen also shows the calculated path of the wheels. These lines adjust their direction according to the steering wheel movement of the driver. The vehicle's calculated path starts at 0.3 meters, calculated from the end of the rear bumper and extends a maximum of 3.2 meters behind the vehicle. The screen also shows guidelines that mark the outer edge of the vehicle. These range from 0.3 meters, calculated from the end of the rear bumper to 1.5 meters rearward. If the steering wheel movement changes, the guidelines of the vehicle's lateral location change. If there is an object behind the vehicle, recorded by the Parking Assistance Module (PAM), a field is drawn out that shows how close the object is and in which area it is.

The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) communicates with other control modules via CAN communication. The control module checks its calculations and all performed activations, as well as input and output signals via integrated diagnostics. When the control module detects a fault, a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored. In some cases, the incorrect signal is replaced by a substitute value. Any DTCs are stored in the control module memory. The information can be read out using the diagnostic tool.

If the control module detects a fault, a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored inside the control module's internal memory. At the same time, a number of values are stored. These are frozen at the time the fault occurred. Depending on the severity of the fault, certain functions may be partially or completely disengaged. Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and frozen values (extended diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information) can be read off using VADIS via the data link connector (DLC) in the vehicle.

NOTE:

The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) cannot detect faults in the event of an open-circuit on the video signal to the infotainment control module (ICM).

This fault detection is performed instead of the Infotainment control module (ICM) and is fault traced using the symptom based fault tracing "Checking the parking camera system".

This symptom fault tracing can be found under INFORMATION/ FAULT TRACING/SYMPTOM RELATED TESTS/Electrical system/Media, communication and navigation/General/Checking the parking camera system.

As the control module and camera are integrated, the entire Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) must be replaced in the event of a fault in either the control module and/or the camera. On the Japanese market (only applies to the XC60), the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) and the switch can be replaced individually. However, the side view camera can only be replaced with the entire door mirror (mirror and side view camera).

The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is powered from the Central electronic module (CEM) via a fuse and grounded in the body.

To check whether the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is powered and grounded, ignition position II can be activated and reverse gear engaged when stationary (on the condition that the auto activation option is activated in the menu on the infotainment control module (ICM)). The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) can also be activated via a button in the climate control module (CCM). If the screen is activated and shows an image of what is behind the vehicle, the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is powered and grounded.
