Control Module
For further information about the various Infotainment packages. See appropriate Design and Function information for the Infotainment system, Sensus 2.5., Refer to SYSTEM OVERVIEW
The Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) (4/185) is the master control module in the entire Infotainment system and checks the other control modules in the Infotainment system.
The Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) is located inside the dashboard with a corresponding separate 7 inch screen.
The Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) manages the functions for:
- Radio
- Radio reception, AM/FM.
- Radio reception, HD (Hybrid Digital) (market-dependent).
- RDS-reception (Radio Data System) (market-dependent).
- Media
- CD-playback.
- DVD playback.
- USB.
- Bluetooth (external telephone).
- AUX-playback.
- TV.
- Phone
- Bluetooth (external telephone).
- Phone Module (PHM).
- Navigation

- Navigation (option).
- Connection
- Web applications.
- Connected Navigation (option).
- Web browser.
- Bluetooth (external telephone), SMS-management.
- Cameras
- The rear Parking Aid Camera.
- The camera for front blind view (accessories).
- The Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) communicates with other control modules via:
- CAN
- LIN
- MOST
- USB
- Bluetooth
The task of the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) is to act as a gateway between CAN, USB and the MOST network.
The Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) controls functions run on the MOST network via its user interface. The command is transmitted from the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) to the other control modules in the network. These implement the requested functions, for example sound playback, changing sound sources and radio settings.
The Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) controls the Infotainment Theft Protection ITP function.
There is a remote control (option) for the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU). The remote control can be used to activate most functions that can be controlled on the center console and via the buttons on the steering wheel.
For information about the functions controlled by the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) but implemented by other control modules in the MOST network, see appropriate Design and Function information for each control module and for the MOST network.
The control module checks executed activations and input/output signals via its integrated diagnostics. When the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) detects a fault a diagnostic trouble code is generated. Any diagnostic trouble codes are stored in the control module memory. The information can be read with the diagnostic tool via the data link connector in the vehicle.
A simple way to check that the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) is supplied with power and is grounded is to check that the screen starts when the control module starts.
