The sensor for the parking brake is directly connected to the central electronic module (CEM). A signal which indicates whether the parking brake is applied or not is transmitted from the sensor to the central electronic module (CEM) (4/56). The central electronic module (CEM) sends the signal on to the driver information module (DIM) (5/1) via CAN. When the parking brake is applied (activated) the lamp lights.

DIM indicates when the parking brake is engaged by sending both a text message warning and an audible warning simultaneously. If speed exceeds 10 km/h, a low volume audible signal will emit. If speed exceeds 25 km/h, both the volume and the frequency of the signal will increase. Neither text message or audible signals will be sent at speeds under 10 km/h.

The driver information module (DIM) can be programmed so that the driver is also warned by an audible signal that the parking brake is activated.

For further information about the electric parking brake, see appropriate Design and Function information for the parking brake module (PBM).
