Condition

If the transmission control module (TCM) registers that reverse or forward drive is not engaged when the gear selector is moved to position R or D, diagnostic trouble code (DTC) TCM-P170164 or TCM-P073000 depending on the cause of the fault.

The diagnostic trouble code can be diagnosed when the engine is running.

Substitute Value 

• Auxiliary program Emergency mode 1  in the transmission control module (TCM) has started.

  HINT:  EMERGENCY MODE IN CASE OF MALFUNCTION 

Possible Source 

• Contact resistance in connections or one of the solenoids has stuck in OFF or ON position.
• Mechanical faults in gearbox.

Fault symptom[s] 

• Warning lights and chimes/Malfunction Indicator Light ("Check engine" light) indication/no indication
• Text window and warning symbol/Red symbol and text message
• Automatic transmission/No automatic gearshift
