When engine braking is activated, the movement of the wheels is transferred to the rear planetary gear carrier, whose counter-clockwise movement is hindered by F1's attempts to rotate clockwise. When B2 is activated the rear planetary gear carrier is locked, which then transfers the wheels' motion to the engine.
