Distributor Ignition

The ignition coil is grounded (triggered) by the Ignition Control Module (ICM). When coil is grounded, secondary voltage from the ignition coil is then distributed to each spark plug by the distributor.

The ICM is switched on and off by the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM uses input signals from TDC, CYP and CKP sensors for basic ignition timing. In addition, ignition timing is influenced by throttle position sensor, coolant temperature sensor and MAP sensor.
