A/T System Description - Components
ATF Warmer
The ATF warmer promotes the transmission fluid to warm up when the engine is cool.
Countershaft Speed Sensor
The countershaft speed sensor detects revolution speed signal of the countershaft which is sent to the TCM.
Drive Plate
The drive plate is installed to the engine crankshaft and transmits the engine power to the torque converter. Also, the drive plate transmits the power from the starter to the engine.
Mainshaft Speed Sensor
The mainshaft speed sensor detects revolution speed signal of the input shaft which is sent to the TCM.
Paddle Shifter
The paddle shifter is composed of the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) and the paddle shifter - (downshift switch). They are installed on the back of the steering wheel, and enable the transmission to be up-shifted or down-shifted manually.
SBW Shifter Assembly
The SBW shifter assembly performs the shift operations of the driver electrically instead of using control cables. The SBW shifter control module is built-into the SBW shifter assembly. A push switch type SBW shifter permitting change to any position by one touch is used offering reduced shift operation and excellent operability.
Torque Converter
The torque converter is connected to the drive plate. It consists of a pump, turbine, stator, and lock-up clutch piston, which uses ATF to transmit the engine power to the input shaft.
Transfer Assembly (With AWD)
The transfer assembly is located on the rear side of the transmission, beside the differential assembly. The transfer assembly transmits the power from the differential assembly to the rear differential via the propeller shaft.
Transmission Control Module (TCM)
The TCM receives input signals from various sensors, switches, and other control units to processes data, and outputs signals for the A/T control system. The TCM controls the shift solenoid valves and the clutch pressure control solenoid valves in the valve body assembly to perform the hydraulic control, the shift control, and the lock-up control. Also, the TCM sends the enabling signal of the auto idle stop system to the PCM.
Valve Body Assembly
The valve body assembly is composed of the following parts, and regulates and applies hydraulic pressure to each clutch and brake.
