Coolant Temperature Sensor Test

NOTE: When testing resistance or voltage values, a high impedance (digital) volt-ohm meter must be used.
  1. Remove the sensor from the engine (DO NOT remove when engine is hot). Measure resistance in relation to temperature after a temperature stabilization time of at least 10 minutes. With the temperature about 70°F (20°C), the resistance should be around 25,000 ohms. With the temperature of 175°F (80°C), the resistance should be around 320 ohms.
  2. If readings are incorrect, check wiring circuit and repair as needed. If circuit is good, replace temperature sensor.
