Preliminary Testing
Several driveability problems may result from faulty or poor wiring, loose and/or leaking hose connections, or basic engine systems malfunctions. To avoid unnecessary component testing, check the following areas before beginning trouble shooting of the system.
- Intake air system leaks.
- Electrical connections at all components.
- Vacuum lines (secure and leak-free).
- Battery charge and water level.
- Ignition components (distributor, plugs, coil).
- Ignition timing.
- Engine compression.
- Valves properly adjusted.
- Correct oil pressure.
- Correct fuel pressure.
Most of the engine symptoms listed may also be caused by either a leaking cold start injector or a defective airflow meter. Check these components first when diagnosing engine malfunctions.
