Checking Fluid Levels: Notes

NOTE: ATF level is affected by ATF temperature. Checking ATF level at too low a temperature leads to overfilling. Checking ATF level at too high a temperature leads to under filling. Overfilling or under filling transaxle can lead to transaxle malfunction.
NOTE: When ATF level is checked, seal on level plug must always be replaced. VAG Scan Tool (1551) and Diagnosis Cable (1551/3B) are required to check ATF level. Scan tool is used to measure ATF temperature. Follow aftermarket scan tool manufacturer instructions (if applicable) to check ATF temperature.
NOTE: Some models are equipped with auxiliary ATF cooler. An additional test procedure MAY be required for these vehicles when checking fluid level. See 01V Transaxle (With Auxiliary ATF Cooler)  .
