Engine Control Module

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has memory storage and a permanent diagnostic trouble code memory. Always check with vehicle manufacturer for latest ECM application. New ECM must be coded with the VAG 1551 or VAS 5051 scan tool when installed in vehicle. See appropriate SELF DIAGNOSTICS article for ECM coding information.

The ECM receives input signals from various engine sensors. These input signals are used to control idle speed, fuel delivery and ignition timing to maintain optimum performance, fuel economy and emission standards.
