Selector Mechanism, Checking
There is a risk of injury and accident from accidentally engaging a gear when the engine is running.
- Before performing work with the engine running, place the selector lever in the "P" position and engage the parking brake.
- The starter does not work when the selector lever is in "S", "D", "R" or in the Tip Tronic gate
- If selector lever position "N" is selected at speeds greater than 5 km/h, the shift lock solenoid must not engage and block the selector lever. The selector lever can be moved into a another gear.
- For speeds below 5 km/h (almost standstill) and shifting into selector lever position "N", the shift lock solenoid must only engage after approximately 1 second. The selector lever can be moved out of "N" only when the brake pedal is pressed.

- The brake pedal is not pressed:
With button pressed, selector lever is locked and cannot be shifted out of position "P". The shift lock solenoid blocks the selector lever.
- The brake pedal is pressed:
The shift lock solenoid releases the selector lever. It is not possible to shift into a gear. Move the selector lever slowly from "P" through "R, N, D, 3, 2" and make sure the transmission range display in the instrument cluster shows the correct selector lever position.

- The brake pedal is not pressed:
The selector lever is locked and cannot be move out of "N". The shift lock solenoid blocks the selector lever.
- The brake pedal is pressed:
The shift lock solenoid releases the selector lever. It is not possible to shift into a gear.
Switching from the position "N" to "D" when the brake pedal is pressed is only possible without pressing the button on the selector lever. However, from "N" to "R", the button on the selector lever must be pressed.
The selector lever is in "D" and the ignition is turned on:
Selector lever is locked and cannot be shifted from position "D" position to "S".
- Press button on the selector lever:
Selector lever is released and can be shifted from position "D" to "S".

- Move selector lever into tiptronic gate:
The "D" symbol illumination must go out in the selector lever position display when the switch is pressed and the "+" and "-" symbols must turn on.
When shifting the selector lever into the Tiptronic gate, the transmission range display in the instrument cluster must change from "PRNDS" to "654321".
- Shift selector lever in Tiptronic gate to "+" and "-" :
When shifting the selector lever to "+" or "-", the "654321" display in the instrument cluster must move up/down one gear (display changes).
