Transmission, Installing: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Procedure 

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

NOTE:

Replace bolts that are tightened to the specification.

Replace self-locking nuts and bolts and sealing rings and seals.

Replace the clamps and the selector lever securing plate.

The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory.

To secure the charge air hoses on their connections, spray the clamps used previously with rust remover before installing.

When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.

-- Check needle bearing in engine driveshaft. Refer to [For engine(s) CBRA] Removal and Installation or to [For engine(s) CCTA] Removal and Installation .

-- Clean input shaft splines and hub and remove corrosion.

-- Apply the clutch disc shaft spline grease very lightly to the splines . Remove any excess grease.

Vehicles with 4-Cylinder 2.0L Engine: 

-- Check if the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block and insert them if they are not.

Vehicles with 6-Cylinder 3.2L Engine: 

-- Check if the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block and insert them if they are not.

All Vehicles: 

-- When installing a new transmission, check to see if the old drive flanges must be changed to fit the new transmission .

-- Carefully raise the transmission with the V.A.G 1383 A and bring it into the installation position using the 3282.

-- Insert transmission without pinching any lines.

-- Attach the transmission to the engine Transmission Installation Tightening Specifications .

-- Install subframe mount and follow installation sequence Transmission Side Subframe Mount Tightening Sequence .

WARNING:

Remove 10 - 222 A only when all subframe mounting bolts are tightened to the specified torque and the subframe is installed.

-- Attach the bracket to the engine and bevel box, tightening specification and sequence. Vehicles with 2.0L TFSI engine FLANGE SHAFTS, SHAFT SEALS OVERVIEW => Bevel Box Bracket for Vehicles with 4-Cylinder, 2.0L TFSI - Tightening Specification and Sequence , vehicles with 6 cylinder 3.2L engine FLANGE SHAFTS, SHAFT SEALS OVERVIEW => Bevel Box Bracket -A- for Vehicles with 6-Cylinder 3.2L Engine - Tightening Specification and Sequence .

-- Install selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE .

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging sealing ring -arrow - in driveshaft flange.

  • Press engine/transmission assembly toward bulkhead while carefully guiding bevel box pins into driveshaft flange.

-- Slide the driveshaft horizontally onto the guide pins. Refer to FINAL DRIVE, DIFFERENTIAL .

-- Install the subframe. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install pendulum supports at transmission with new bolts -2- and -3 -.

NOTE:

During removal, pay attention to the markings on the driveshaft and flange. These must be aligned with each other -arrows-.

-- Secure the driveshaft with flexible disc on the bevel box flange. Refer to 39 FINAL DRIVE, DIFFERENTIAL .

-- Install the exhaust system free of tension. Refer to [For engine(s) CBRA] Description and Operation or to[For engine(s) CCTA] Description and Operation .

-- Install the drive axle. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the bracket -A- (bolts -1- and -2-), where applicable.

NOTE:

Bracket -A- is secured at front of engine oil pan.

-- Secure bracket -A- with nut -1- on front transmission cover.

-- Adjust subframe mount. Refer to [For engine(s) CBRA] Diagnosis and Testing or to [For engine(s) CCTA] Diagnosis and Testing .

-- Remove the 10 - 222 A from the engine.

-- Install left front level control system sensors -G78-. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Check the selector lever cable adjustment and adjust if necessary. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECK AND ADJUST IF NECESSARY .

-- Install battery carrier and battery. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID, CHECKING AND FILLING .

-- Check coolant level. Refer to [For engine(s) CBRA] General Information or to [For engine(s) CCTA] General Information .
