Shift Mechanism Function Unit, Removing And Installing: Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Tightening specifications. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM .

NOTE:

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Coat the bearings and the sliding surfaces with Polycarbamide GreaseG 052 142 A2.

Selector lever in "S".

If the Selector Mechanism Function Unit Was Replaced

NOTE:

A new selector mechanism function unit does not have the shift gate joint -3-. The joint from the old selector mechanism function unit must be transferred to the new unit.

-- Pull the plastic retaining spring -2- forward slightly and remove the bolt -3- upward -arrow-.

-- Remove the shift gate joint and install the new shift mechanism.

-- Install the bolt -3- from the top and push it down.

The plastic retaining spring -2- must lock the bolt -3- and keep it from falling out.

-- Slide selector lever cable into selector mechanism function unit.

-- Insert the end of the selector lever cable -2- into the shift gate joint -3-.

-- Install the clamping screw -1- through the opening at the top of the selector mechanism -arrow- using the Socket and KeyT40031.

-- Secure the selector lever cable -1- with the new locking plate -2-.

Installation position: Angled end of retaining clamp points toward rear.

-- Insert both hooks -A- into the lower section of the selector mechanism function unit.

-- Mount the selector mechanism function unit on the lower section.

NOTE:

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

-- Tip the function unit and at the same time install the center console bracket.

-- Install the bolts -arrows-.

-- Connect the connector -1-.

-- Install the center console bracket. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE MOUNTING BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the noise insulation -2- in the shift housing.

-- Connect the connector -1- to the Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module -J587- with the Tiptronic Switch -F189-.

-- Install the front ashtray or front storage compartment. Refer to FRONT ASHTRAY/FRONT COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the frame with the Multimedia System Control Head -E380- -1-. Refer to Multimedia System Control Head -E380- INSTALLATION FRAME, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the handle on the selector lever. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Adjusting. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .

-- Checking. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM, CHECKING .
