Fuel Level Sensor -G-, Checking: Procedure
-- Move the front seats all the way forward.
-- Turn off the ignition.
-- Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to OVERVIEW - BENCH SEAT/SINGLE SEAT .
-- Unclip the right sealing flange cover -1- at the tabs in direction of -arrows- using the : 3409 .
-- Unlock the connector catches and disconnect the connector -1- on the right sealing flange.
The Fuel Level Sensor -G- Is Installed
The fuel tank must be filled completely in order to have an exact reading of the resistance on the "Fuel tank full" when it is installed. Drive at least 500 meters (546 yards) after filling the fuel tank full to get rid of any bubbles in the fuel tank. Then fill the fuel tank again.
-- Connect the multimeter for resistance measurements shown in the table.
| Measurement at Contact | Tank Empty | Tank Full |
|---|---|---|
| 2 + 3 | approximately 270 Ω | approximately 77.5 Ω |
| 2 + 4 | approximately 70 Ω | approximately 262.5 Ω |
| 3 + 4 1) | approximately 340 Ω | approximately 340 Ω |
| 1) Arbitrary sensor position | ||
The Fuel Level Sensor -G- Is Removed:
To check resistance values "tank full" or "tank empty", the fuel delivery unit must be removed and the sensor floater must be moved in upper or lower end position.
The following values are obtained when the fuel level sensor is removed because of the greater movement of the floater arm:
-- Connect the multimeter for resistance measurements shown in the table.
| Measurement at Contact | Tank Empty | Tank Full |
|---|---|---|
| 2 + 3 | approximately 290.3 Ω | approximately 77.5 Ω |
| 2 + 4 | approximately 49.7 Ω | approximately 262.5 Ω |
| 3 + 4 1) | approximately 340 Ω | approximately 340 Ω |
| 1) Arbitrary sensor position | ||
The Fuel Level Sensor -G- is faulty when the following is detected:
- Large deviations in measured values
- Measured value 0 Ω (short circuit).
- Measured value ∞ Ω (open circuit).
- No fault in the electric wires.
-- Install the fuel delivery unit and fuel level sensor. Refer to FUEL DELIVERY UNIT/FUEL LEVEL SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
