Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting
Selector Lever Cable Must Be Adjusted If:
- The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.
- The engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.
- The cable itself or the selector mechanism was removed and installed.
- Engine/transmission positions changes, for example, were installed free of tension.
Adjusting:
-- Move the selector lever into "P".
- The ATF cooler bracket is removed from the transmission, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- With the battery removed perform the selector lever emergency release, refer to EMERGENCY RELEASE FROM P .
-- Loosen the adjusting screw -2- on the selector lever cable -1-.
-- Turn both front wheels in one direction, for example by pushing the vehicle forward until the detent lever in the transmission engages in the parking lock gear.
- When both wheels cannot be turned in one direction at the same time the parking lock is engaged.
-- Carefully move the selector lever slightly forward and backward without shifting to a different selector lever position.
This loosens the selector lever cable.
-- Tighten the adjusting screw -2-. The position of the selector lever cable must not change while doing this.
-- Install the bracket -2- for the ATF cooler and the ATF cooler -1- on the transmission, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the battery tray and the battery, refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VERSION 1 or BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VERSION 2 , also see OVERVIEW - BATTERY, BATTERY IN LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT .
-- Install the air filter housing, refer to OVERVIEW - AIR FILTER HOUSING (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine: EA 888 Generation II, As of 01/2018) or OVERVIEW - AIR FILTER HOUSING (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation II, As of 09/2016). (For Air Filter Housing 2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation III, As of 12/2017, information not available). .
-- Observe measures after connecting the battery, refer to CONNECTING (Battery in Engine Compartment), or CONNECTING (Battery in Luggage Compartment) .
