Selector Lever Cable, Checking
To check the selector lever cable for ease of movement, remove it from the transmission and position the removed end so it does not make contact anywhere.
The selector lever moves and the selector lever cable will be attached again.
After that, selector lever cable must be adjusted, refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .
Do not grease the selector lever cable connection!
-- Move the selector lever into "P".
-- Remove the ATF cooler bracket from the transmission, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Carefully release the selector lever cable from the transmission -1 arrows- by hand and pull it out of the cable bracket in the direction of the -arrow 2-.
Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
Do not use pliers because the tabs on the cable mounting bracket could break off.
-- Pry the selector lever cable -1- off the selector lever -3-, for example, using a wrench -2-.
-- Move the selector lever from "P" through "S" and back to "P" several times.
- The selector lever must move easily.
- With the battery removed perform the selector lever emergency release, refer to EMERGENCY RELEASE FROM P .
-- Install the selector lever cable again.
