Hydraulic Unit With Control Module, Removing And Installing, Hybrid Vehicles: Removing

The DTC memory must be read with the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester before removing.

-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester to the vehicle data link connector with the ignition switched off.

NOTE:

Switch the ignition on.

DTC memory interrogated, errors shown corrected and DTC memory erased.

-- Start the program in Guided Functions.

-- Turn off the ignition.

-- Insert the Brake Pedal Actuator VAG 1869/2 between the brake pedal and driver seat. Press the brake pedal 60 mm.

-- Raise the vehicle.

-- Connect the bleeder bottle hose to the bleeder screws on the left front and left rear brake calipers and then open the bleed screw.

NOTE: This reduces the pressure in the hydraulic unit.

-- Close the left front and left rear bleed screw.

-- Lower vehicle.

-- Do not remove the Brake Pedal Actuator VAG 1869/2.

-- Remove the engine cover -arrows-.

WARNING: Follow the High Voltage System General Warnings.

-- Remove the screws -arrows- and remove the cover -2-.

-- Open the retainers -arrow- and move the bracket with the electric wires to the rear.

-- Free up the wire -1-.

-- Remove the wires -2- from the Electric Drive Power and Control Electronics -JX1-.

-- Remove the coolant reservoir bolts.

-- Remove the coolant reservoir with the attached coolant hoses upward from the bracket.

-- Disconnect the connector from the coolant reservoir.

-- Tie to the side the coolant reservoir with attached hoses.

NOTE: Do not open the coolant hoses.

-- To protect against escaping brake fluid, place a lint-free rag in the area under the control module and hydraulic unit.

WARNING: When working with brake fluid, observe relevant safety precautions and notes. Refer to BRAKE FLUID .

-- Mark the brake lines.

-- Remove the brake lines from the mounts.

-- Remove all brake lines form the hydraulic unit -2-.

WARNING: Do not bend the brake lines near the hydraulic unit.

-- Seal brake lines and threaded holes with plugs from repair kit.

-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the control module -3-.

NOTE:

Make sure that no brake fluid enters control module connector housing. This could lead to corrosion of the contacts and thereby cause the system to fail.

Clean a dirty connector housing thoroughly with compressed air.

-- Remove the hydraulic unit and control module from the bracket.

-- Fasten the bracket from the hydraulic unit.

Refer to HYDRAULIC UNIT BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, HYBRID VEHICLES 

Replace the control module:

CAUTION: The pump motor may not be separated from the hydraulic unit.
