Engine, Installing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Volkswagen Touareg. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Individual components of the positioning tool:

CAUTION:

Note the following whenever working inside the engine compartment due to limited space:

  • Route all lines and cables in their original locations.
  • Make sure that there is sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
NOTE:

When moving the engine/transmission assembly into the body, it is always necessary to bring engine carrier into contact on body using the Scissor Lift Table: VAS6131  . >>Pulling up<< the engine carrier with mounting bolts damages the threaded insert.

Procedure

-- Before installing the assemblies, install the exhaust manifold with the catalytic converters.

NOTE:

The illustration shows an example, other free subframe attachment points can be used.

-- Install suitable adapters -A- at the left and right sides in a threaded hole on the subframe mount on the vehicle longitudinal member.

-- Install the Scissor Lift Table - Positioning Tool - Dot Laser: VAS6131/17-1  -B- in the adapter -A-.

-- Insert the bolts -C- centered in the securing point on the subframe with the bolt heads facing upward.

-- Switch on the Scissor Lift Table - Positioning Tool - Dot Laser: VAS6131/17-1  and align the scissor lift table so that the laser beam strikes the bolt head on the left and right. Remove the dot laser and adapter again after aligning.

Engine, Installing

-- Raise the drivetrain up until it comes into contact with the body using the Scissor Lift Table: VAS6131  . Be careful of the installed Assembly Carrier Locating Pins: T10300  when doing this.

-- Attach the subframe to the vehicle. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME .

-- Reconnect all connections, lines, hoses and connectors that were disconnected for the removal procedure.

-- On hybrid vehicles, it is very important the contact surfaces on the potential equalization cable are clean and have no grease on them. Clean the contact surfaces. Refer to POTENTIAL EQUALIZATION CABLES .

-- Install the plenum chamber cover. Refer to Plenum Chamber Cover .

-- Install the right and left wiper arms. Refer to WIPER ARMS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Connect the A/C lines. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .

-- Refill the A/C system with refrigerant. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .

-- Fill the power steering fluid. Refer to POWER STEERING, CHECKING FLUID LEVEL .

-- Fill with coolant for the high temperature coolant circuit. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING, HIGH TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT .

-- Fill with coolant for the low temperature coolant circuit. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING, LOW TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT .

-- If necessary, fill with engine oil.

-- Connect the battery. Refer to Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting .

-- Re-energize the high voltage system. Refer to RESTARTING THE HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM .

-- Bleed the clutch. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0C8] Hydraulic System, Bleeding .

-- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .

-- Fill the ATF. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0C8] ATF Level, Checking and Filling .

-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Perform a vehicle system test. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in "Guided Fault Finding"  .

-- End the vehicle system test in such a way that possibly existing DTC entries are automatically erased.

-- Calibrate the electro-drive drive motor. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in "Guided Functions".

-- Create the readiness code with a road test.

Always observe all safety precautions when performing the road test.

-- Perform another vehicle system test and correct any faults.

NOTE:

If, during the road test, it is discovered that the steering wheel is not exactly straight when driving in a straight line, then perform an axle alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT .
