This procedure contains mandatory replaceable parts. Refer to component overview prior to starting procedure.
Mandatory Replacement Parts
- Nuts - Catalytic Converter
- Gasket - Catalytic Converter
- Bolts - Drive Plate
- Bolts - Transmission to Engine
- Bolts - Engine Mount
- Bolt - Starter to Transmission
Risk of vehicle tipping over with engine removed.
- Secure vehicle. Luggage compartment must be empty for this.
Risk of damaging electronic components when disconnecting the battery.
- Observe the steps for disconnecting the battery.
Remove the engine upward without the transmission.
During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.
In order to be able to turn the driveshaft on an AWD vehicle to remove it, release the electro-mechanical parking brake before disconnecting the battery.
-- Disconnect the Ground (GND) cable from the battery terminal. Refer to BATTERY .
-- Carefully pull the engine cover off the bolts one after the other in the direction of -arrows-. Do not pull sharply on the engine cover or pull it to one side.
The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is warm. Risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant.
Scalding the skin and other parts of the body is possible.
- Wear safety gloves.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Reduce the pressure by covering the coolant expansion tank cap with a cloth and carefully opening it.
-- Remove the cap -arrow- from the coolant reservoir.
-- Remove the nuts -1- from the front muffler accessible from the top.
The nut -2- and bolt -3- will be removed later.
-- Remove the left and right front wheel housing liners. Refer to WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Remove the left and right front wheel spoiler. Refer to WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Remove the subframe crossbrace. Refer to SUBFRAME CROSSBRACE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
The suspension components could be damaged.
- Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, the steering gear or the subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.
-- Disconnect the connector -1- and free up the wire.
-- Place the :VAS6208 underneath.
Ignore item -2-.
-- Lift the clamp -3- and remove the lower left coolant hose from the radiator and drain the coolant.
