Bevel Box, Removing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Engine Sling - Engine Bracket:2024A/1
- Engine Support Device:3300A
- Socket And Extended Bit:T10107A
Procedure
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the pendulum support. PENDULUM SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the fan shroud. Refer to FAN SHROUD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and remove the right drives axle heat shield.
Vehicles with TDI Engine:
-- Remove the EGR cooler. Refer to CHARGING SYSTEM (BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR) & CRUISE CONTROL (1 OF 2) [ROADSTER] .
All Vehicles:
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the heat shield -1-.
-- Mark the position of the flexible disc and the bevel box flange to each other for re-installation.
-- Remove the driveshaft from the bevel box -arrows- by counterholding at the triangular flange using a lever.
-- Push the engine/transmission assembly forward slightly (toward the front end) and remove the driveshaft from the bevel box.
Leaks Due to Damaged Seal.
- Push the driveshaft horizontally toward the rear.
- If the seal is damaged, the driveshaft must be replaced.
-- Remove the nut -1- for the right coupling rod -3- from the stabilizer bar -2-.
-- Using a felt-tip pen, mark the installation position of the right ball joint on the nuts -arrows-.
-- Remove the nuts.
-- Remove the right control arm from the ball joint.
- During the assembly work, make sure that the ball joint rubber boot does not get damaged. If necessary, protect the ball joint rubber boot from damage.
-- Remove the right drive axle from the bevel box. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Tie up the driveshaft.
- Make sure that the drive axle protective coating is not damaged.
-- Pivot the right suspension strut outward and support it with the :2024A/1 as shown.
Risk of accident due to loose support parts.
- Secure the pin and ball joint with the securing pin -arrow- and nut -1-.
-- Disconnect the connector -arrow- from the Oil Level Thermal Sensor -G266-.
- There are different versions depending on the engine.
Vehicles with a TFSI Engine:
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- and remove the bevel box bracket.
Vehicles with TDI Engine:
-- Disconnect the connector -1-.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and push the Heater Support Pump -V488- to the right.
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- and remove the bevel box bracket.
All Vehicles:
-- Remove the right flange shaft bolt using the :T10107A by installing two bolts in the flange and counterholding the flange shaft with an assembly lever.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- that connect the bevel box to the S tronic dual clutch transmission.
-- Fasten the :3300A to the subframe.
-- Place the spindle of the :3300A on the transmission as shown.
-- Using the spindle on the :3300A , only push the engine/transmission assembly so far forward until the bevel box can be removed.
- Do not push the engine/transmission assembly too far forward, to not damage the fan shroud.
-- Carefully press the bevel box off of the S tronic dual clutch transmission while securing it from falling.
-- Remove the bevel box together with the right flange shaft.
