Peripheral Camera, Calibrating

Calibration/adjustment must be performed if:

• The installation position of a camera in the vehicle has been changed.
• The Peripheral Camera Control Module -J928- has been replaced.
• There is a misalignment in the overlap range of the individual camera images.

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
• Calibration System:VAS 721 001

1. Left Calibration Field
2. Front Peripheral Camera -R243-
3. Right Calibration Field
4. Right Peripheral Camera -R245-
5. Rear Peripheral Camera -R246-
6. Left Peripheral Camera -R244-

Requirements

• Unladen vehicle.
• Create a work surface that is large enough (no objects surrounding the calibration board to prevent any incorrect line detections).
• Prevent any strong lighting contrasts (no headlamps or direct lighting).
• Move the vehicle onto a solid, flat surface.
• Move the wheels so that they are straight.
• Deflect and swing out the vehicle multiple times.
• Electromechanical parking brake applied.
• People must not sit in the vehicle.
• All vehicle doors and the rear lid must be closed.
• Clean the camera lenses with a damp cloth.
• Fold out both exterior rearview mirrors.
• Connect the battery charger for the battery support mode. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING . The battery charger must not be within the camera's field of vision.
• Check the camera images on the Front Information Display Control Head -J685-. Replace the camera if the images are unclear because the camera has been damaged. Check the fastener for the camera if the image is low.
• The system is active and is displayed on the Front Information Display Control Head -J685-.
• Before starting the calibration/adjustment, check the DTC memory and correct all displayed entries.

Procedure 

-- Left and right calibration field near the vehicle.

• The arrows -1- on the calibration field points in the direction of travel.

-- Apply the rear and front clamping strips on the calibration field.

-- Align the crosshairs -2- on the calibration field to the front axle of the vehicle (front wheel center).

-- Align both calibration fields parallel. The vehicle must be located in the center between both calibration fields.

Pay attention to the following measurement requirements:

• The dimension -a- 2000 to 2500 mm ± 5 mm, front and rear the same.
• The dimension -b- must be the same on both sides.
• The dimension -c- must be the same on both sides.

Calibration Procedure

The following should not occur during the calibration procedure:

• Vehicle doors must not be opened or closed.

-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Switch the ignition on.

-- Select and start the Diagnostic  operating mode.

-- Select the Test plan  tab.

-- Select the Select individual test  button and select the following tree structure consecutively:

• Diagnostic-capable systems
• 006C - Peripheral Camera Control Module - J928
• 006C - Peripheral Camera Control Module, functions
• 006C - Peripheral Camera, Calibration

-- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.

-- Switch off the ignition after successful calibration/adjustment.

-- Disconnect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester from the diagnostic connection.

-- Disconnect the battery charger. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING .
