CNG Systems

Let's go over some of the different types of systems you might run into as more of these vehicles hit the road. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) systems modify the fuel system to operate solely on CNG. Modification to CNG systems may differ by year and make of vehicle. Most CNG systems allow the removal of the thermostatic air cleaner and the evaporative control system. CNG systems require a high-pressure fuel tank that must be compressed to roughly 2400 psi to keep the natural gas liquid. The gas is maintained as a liquid because much more volume can be contained in the tank when in liquid form. The high pressure tank can make these systems costly. Natural gas doesn't have the BTU output of gasoline so you can expect reduced power and gas mileage (when compared to gasoline) when using this fuel.
