SUBJECT

Updated Transmission Control Module EPROM

SYMPTOMS

An updated transmission control module EPROM is available for the models listed above and will address the following complaints:

- Harsh 1-2, 2-3 upshifts under light acceleration.
- Harsh 1-2, 3-4 upshift under full load.
- Harsh 5-4 & 5-3 downshift under full load and kickdown.
- Harsh 1-2 upshift under load, harsh 3-2 downshift while coasting.
- Trans Program displayed on the instrument cluster matrix display and any of the following fault codes may be stored in the transmission control module:
1. -- 1, 4, 5, 29 and 51 -- 42 -- 100 -- 105 -- 106
- Vibration under light load with torque converter clutch closed.

CORRECTION

To address the above listed complaints several changes have been made to the original EGS transmission shift program.

Verify that the latest EGS EPROM is installed by checking the tester software number or data status number on the EGS identification screen.

The table shown in Fig 1 , identifies the latest software number or data status that will be displayed on the EGS identification screen of the DIS or MoDiC, if the latest EPROM is installed.

NOTE: The EGS EPROM must also be replaced with a 3232X if:

- The valve body is replaced on a transmission with a serial number less than 18585.
- A replacement transmission is installed. The replacement transmission can be identified by a date stamp located on the extension housing, as indicated by the arrow in Fig 2 .

HINT: The transmission adaptation values stored in the control module should always be cleared after an EPROM replacement, valve body work, or when the transmission is replaced.

PROCEDURE

In case of a customer complaint.

Install the latest EGS transmission EPROM if the tester software number or the data status does not reflect what is shown in the table above. Please refer to TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 24 05 95 (4294) for instructions on removing and installing the EPROM.
Once the new EPROM is installed or if any valve body work is performed on the transmission clear the adaptation values stored in the control module using the MoDiC or DIS.
To clear adaptation values select:
1. EGS diagnostics
2. "5. Special Functions"
3. "3. Pressure - adaptation values"
4. Depress ( button to activate the clear function.
