61 13... Repairing front right wiring harness

  1. Remove the following parts first:
  2. Remove passenger seat.
  3. Refer to 52 13 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SEAT (NORMAL / MANUAL) .
  4. Remove glovebox, refer to 51 16 360 REMOVING AND INSTALLING RIGHT GLOVE .
  5. Remove right entrance cover strip.
  6. Refer to 51 47 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING THE FRONT (INSIDE) LEFT OR RIGHT ROCKER PANEL STRIP .
  7. Remove right A-pillar trim.
  8. Remove ventilation channel for footwell on right.

If necessary, cut open the carpeting below the heater at the tunnel. Fold the carpet forwards and tie up to the center console.

Loosen the nuts and remove the wiring harness cover.

Separate the entire wiring harness exactly at the tailboard feed-through. Unwrap the wiring harness and lay it back in the footwell.

Pull the other end of the wiring harness with the rubber grommet into the engine compartment and connect to all plug connections.

Lay the repair wiring harness into the engine compartment, connect and feed into the passenger compartment. Lay the individual cable branches to the control units, relays and terminal connectors. (Note the designations of the cable branches).

Lift up the kick-strip and lay the connector (5) from the repair cable under the kick-strip. Provide all cables of same color on main wiring harness with stops and pin into mating connector. Connect the connector (5) to the mating connector and lay in the footwell. Cut out and lay the kick-strip in the area of the plug connection.

Set the supplied cover over the recess in the styrofoam.

Laterally unclip and pull out the relay holder.

Loosen the screw and pull out the cover for the terminal connector.

Remove both connectors from the light module (A3).

Push out the secondary locking unit (1) in the direction of the arrow to the next notch.

Unclip only the cable that is the same color as the repair wiring harness. To this purpose, unlock the primary locking unit using special tool 61 1 132 in the direction of the arrow and pull the cable out of the housing.

NOTE: Work out and dispose of the old cable from the main wiring harness up to the separating point.

Unclip the required terminal connector from the holder, pull out the insulation housing and pull out the cable that is to be changed.

Place the terminal connector into special tool 61 9 041/042.

Place the cable from the repair wiring harness onto the terminal connector.

Squeeze special tool and push on contact as far as it will go.

Push the terminal connector into the insulation housing and fasten. Fasten the insulation housing into the bracket.

Pull the connector (x19) from CCM control unit (A4).

Push the lock (1) in the direction of the arrow and remove.

Push the contact carrier (3) through the opening (5) using a screwdriver.

Hold down the retainer (6) of the contact in the opening (7) of the contact carrier using a small screwdriver. Pull the cable up to the secondary locking unit.

Hold down the retainer again in the secondary locking unit and pull the cable out of the contact carrier.

NOTE: Work out and dispose of the old cable from the main wiring harness up to the separating point.

Remove connector (x1171) from the ABS-control unit.

Unscrew bolts (1). Pry out the contact carrier (2) with gasket (3).

Pull off seal (3). Pull out the secondary locking unit (4).

Using special tool 61 1 151, push back the twin retainer (5) of the corresponding Junior-Power-Timer contact and pull out the cable with the contact.

Using special tool 61 1 152 push back the retainer (5) of the corresponding Micro-Timer contact and pull out the cable with the contact.
