TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): SI B64 04 11, Date of Issue:  March 2011
BMW: E60, E61 (5 Series); Vehicles produced from 3/1/2007 to 6/24/2010
GROUP: Heating and Air Conditioning

SUBJECT

Air Intensity Fluctuates in IHKA Auto Mode Program

SITUATION

While driving with the IHKA (Integrated Heating and Air Conditioning, Automatic) in auto mode, the air intensity/fan speed fluctuates intermittently. The air intensity/fan speed can be reduced manually.

CAUSE

The air intensity setting was inadvertently set to an unfavorable setting or there is a software error in the IHKA for the fan characteristic.

PROCEDURE

  1. Duplicate the customer concern.
  2. Verify that the air intensity setting/fan speed in auto mode was not inadvertently set to an unfavorable setting. If the setting is OK, proceed to step 4.
  3. If the air intensity was inadvertently set to an unfavorable setting, readjust the intensity setting and review the "Automatic program" section in the Owner's Manual with the customer. No further action is necessary.
  4. Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.40 or higher.

Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
