S65: ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS FAULTY

SUBJECT

S65: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Is Faulty 

SITUATION

The engine could enter the emergency program or experience performance and rough idle complaints.

The following fault may also be stored: 2AF9: Coolant temperature sensor

CAUSE

This could be caused by an internal fault of the coolant temperature sensor or a sporadic connection problem with the temperature sensor connector, due to vibration-induced movement.

CORRECTION

Replace the coolant temperature sensor, and install a coolant temperature sensor harness repair kit.

Follow the ISTA D Repair Instruction: 12 51 xxx - Exchanging plug-in contact of coolant temperature sensor (S65).

Labor operation code 00 00 006 is a Main labor operation. If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead.

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the "Search" button, and then enter the applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.

Even though work time labor operation code 12 99 000 ends in "000," as described above, is not considered a Main labor operation.

Work time (WT) labor operation 12 99 000 - requires an individual punch time.
