SUBJECT

JBE Fails Programming and Terminal 15 Not Recognized at ICOM 

SITUATION

During a software update of the vehicle (as part of another repair situation), the JBE (Junction Box Electronics) module fails programming. Terminal 15 is then no longer recognized at the ICOM (Integrated Communication Optical Module).

NOTE: Terminal 15 does function properly in the vehicle, but both ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application) and ISTA/P (Integrated Service Technical Application / Programming) do not recognize Terminal 15 as being on.

CAUSE

Software error

CORRECTION

Follow the procedure to perform the specific "additional work," as outlined in the attachment to this Service Information, for "Reanimation of the JBE" with ISTA/P 2.43.0 or later.

Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty.

Defect Code: 61 38 05 02 00 Applies here to correcting the "Terminal 15" issue

or
61 00 721 Refer to KSD 2 Additional work after first termination while programming/encoding with the CAS being included in the original vehicle software update procedure

Excluding the "Terminal 15" issue outlined here, If other control modules fail to program correctly, or a initialization is required, work through the Measures Plan and/or Final Report. Claim this other additional work under a defect code that best applies to the original vehicle software update procedure, refer to the KSD2 for the labor operation codes and labor allowances.

Please refer to the Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual regarding proper support, documentation and archiving required for claims, as applicable.
