51 00... Service position of engine compartment lid

Special tools required: 

WARNING: Danger of injury and damage!
Engine compartment lid must be held by a second person helping.

If necessary, open engine compartment lid.

Left side only: 

Release screw (1) on ground strap.

REMOVE BALL SOCKET  (1).

Unclip gas pressure spring (3) in direction of arrow from ball stud (2).

NOTE: Left side shown. Right side is identical.

Push special tool 51 2 240 over gas pressure spring (2).

Clip ball socket of special tool 51 2 240 onto ball stud (1).

NOTE: Left side shown. Right side is identical.

NOTE: Engine compartment lid trim panel (1) collides with engine compartment lid hinge in service position. Trim panel (1) does not need to be removed.
