Ethanol sensor: Notes

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2017 BMW X3, 2016 BMW X3, 2015 BMW X3, 2014 BMW X3, and 2013 BMW X3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

In Brazil, the engine has to be enabled to run on fuel with a variable proportion of ethanol from E24 to E100.

To make that possible, the ethanol content has to be detected so that the combustion can be adapted to the varying parameters (e.g. calorific value, flashpoint or pinking tendency). That content is measured by the ethanol sensor.

NOTE: The ethanol sensor is used in conjunction with the Flexible Fuel option, SA1AE.

The ethanol sensor is fitted on the low-pressure side downstream of the fuel filter.
