SUBJECT
Dynamic Stability Control Unit (DSC) Aborted when Programming Vehicle
SITUATION
If termination of vehicle programming occurs due to:
- Undervoltage (when the vehicle is connected to an approved battery charger/power supply)
- Lost connection to the server
- Termination by the control module
- Termination by ISTA/P
- ICOM connector removed/falls out
Then the DSC module may no longer communicate when connected to ISTA/D or ISTA/P. As a result, the DSC module cannot be reprogrammed.
CAUSE
DSC software
CORRECTION
Perform the DSC module reset:
- Disconnect the DSC control module from the power supply (remove the DSC module connector).
- Disconnect the battery charger and battery.
- Wait at least 5 minutes.
- Reconnect the DSC control module.
- Connect the battery and charger.
It should now be possible to diagnose the DSC control module again. A new programming session can now be performed.
In some cases, this will not be successful and a replacement DSC module is required.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Programming termination reasons A through D only:
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty.
Covered under the terms of the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Program when necessary and performed in conjunction with the CPO covered repair.
| Defect Code: | Refer to KSD2 | Claim with the defect code that applies to the previous work that required vehicle Programming and Encoding. |
Additional Work: Performing the procedure as outlined in the correction section
| Labor Operation: | Labor Allowance: | Description: |
|---|---|---|
| 34 50 003 | 4 FRU | Work time for disconnecting and reconnecting the DSC control module from the power supply (remove and reinstall the DSC module connector) |
| And: | ||
| 61 20 900 | Refer to KSD2 | Disconnect and reconnecting battery negative cable |
Even though work time labor operation code 34 50 003 ends in "003," it is not considered a Main labor operation. Also, since the "work time" FRU allowance to be claimed is specified, a separate punch time is not required.
Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the "Search" button, and then enter the applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.
