SERVICE ACTION 730 - PROGRAM CONTROL UNITS (SCR)
SERVICE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN
| BMW: | F02 (7 Series Sedan), F10 (5 Series Sedan), F15 (X5) With the N57T diesel engine; F25 (X3), F30 (3 Series Sedan), F31 (3 Series Sports Wagon) With the N47T diesel engine |
| GROUP: | Fuel Supply Systems |
SUBJECT
Service Action: Program Control Units (SCR)
SITUATION
An error in the calculation of the DEF line pressure by the SCR module software could occur at temperatures below 32°F/0°C.
This could cause the Service Engine Soon light (MIL) to come on with a pressure plausibility fault stored in the SCR module.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves certain BMW vehicles with the N47T and N57T diesel engines produced from 7/1/2013 to 12/8/2014.
First check if a Service Action label with a code number 730 is already attached to the B-pillar.
If a code number 730 has been punched out, the Campaign has already been performed and no further action is necessary.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.
PROCEDURE
Program the vehicle using the latest version of ISTA/P.
| F02 | Target integration level: F001-14-11-505 or higher |
| F10 | Target integration level: F010-14-11-505 or higher |
| F30, F31 | Target integration level: F020-14-11-505 or higher |
| F15, F25, F26 | Target integration level: F025-14-11-505 or higher |
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B 04 23 10 ).
For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to Centernet/Aftersales Portal/Service/Workshop Technology/Vehicle Programming.
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 730 . After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-464) and:
- Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
- Punch out code number 730 (2), printed on the label; and
- Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.

Vehicle Programming and Encoding
If a vehicle control module or component was working properly and/or had no related faults stored prior to vehicle programming and it fails to program correctly and/or requires initialization, this additional work must be claimed with separate labor operations under the defect code listed above; refer to KSD2.
Repairs to address control modules and/or components with pre-existing conditions are not eligible to be claimed under the defect code listed in this bulletin.
