SERVICE INFORMATION

Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

NOTE: This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B61 25 16  dated November 2016  .

SITUATION

There may be a software error in the DME (Digital Motor Electronics) and/or BDC (Body Domain Controller) which sets an OBD (On Board Diagnostic) fault entry and trigger the CEL (Check Engine Light) to be illuminated.

This bulletin will be updated with repair instructions and warranty information when they become available.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Delivery Stop involves G12 (7 Series PHEV)

Vehicles which require this Delivery Stop to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

CAUSE

Software in the DME and/or BDC.

CORRECTION

Program and code the vehicle with ISTA 4.02.30 (I-Level 16-11-504) or higher

PROCEDURE

  1. Check current level of ISTA 4.

    Is ISTA 4.02.30, or newer version, available? 

    YES -  go to Step  3.

    NO -  Program the vehicle using the latest ISTA 4 version and then proceed to step 2.

  2. Submit a PuMA case requesting IRAP.
    • Subject: Delivery Stop G12 PHEV
    • IRAP will no longer be required when ISTA 4.02.30 is available (Friday December 2, 2016).
  3. Program the vehicle using the latest ISTA 4.02.30.

Note that ISTA 4 will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply  (SI B04 23 10  ).

WARRANTY INFORMATION

Reimbursement for this Delivery Stop campaign repair will be via normal claim entry utilizing the following information:

Defect Code:  0061430400 
Labor Operation: Labor Allowance: Description:
00 64 789 8 FRU Programming and coding (includes connecting an approved battery charger/power supply and performing a vehicle test) (Plus work)
Or:
00 64 788 1 FRU Programming and coding was performed previously in conjunction with another campaign or repair (vehicle is already at the specified "Target" integration level or higher, no repair is necessary) (Plus work)

Vehicle Programming and Coding

When ISTA/P automatically reprograms and codes all the vehicle's control modules that currently do not have the latest software and if control module failures occur during this programming procedure:

  • Please claim this consequential control module-related repair work under the defect code listed in this bulletin with the applicable KSD2/AIR labor operations.

Other Repairs

Control module failures that occurred prior to performing this programming procedure:

  • When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim this control module-related repair work using the applicable defect code and labor operations in KSD2/AIR.
