ERROR PATTERNS WITH BMW DISPLAY KEY

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

SITUATION

One or more of the following error patterns occurred while using the BMW display key; these error patterns only occur with the BMW display key:

• Comfort Access does not work while opening and closing.
• The BMW display key cannot be charged (USB cable or wirelessly).
• The BMW display key screen is locked and cannot display vehicle information.
• The BMW display key displays the Remote Control Parking (RCP) function even though the vehicle is not equipped with option SA 05DV "Remote Control Parking"
• Sporadically, the engine will not start with BMW display key and one of the following CCM "Check Control messages" is displayed:
  • Remote control, remote control not present or faulty.
  • Not possible to start engine.
  • Hold the remote near the steering column and then press the START-STOP button. see "Owner's Handbook".

CAUSE

Data lost during the communication between the BMW display key and FBD receiver

CORRECTION

Replace the BMW display key.

PROCEDURE

If one or more of the above situations is present:

1. Connect the vehicle to ISTA/D and work through the corresponding test module.

   Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B 04 23 10  ). 

   If there are no other faults detected in the system, then the BMW display key needs to be replaced.

2. Order the new replacement BMW display key from Parts VIN specific by following the existing policy procedures for ordering a new BMW display key.

TEACH-IN NEW RADIO REMOTE CONTROL

The following activities must be performed: 

1. Remove all existing keys from the passenger compartment.
2. Close the hood and all doors.
3. Press the START-STOP button 3 times within 4 sec.
4. The Check Control message "No remote key found" appears followed by the request to "hold the key at the ring aerial".
5. Hold the new BMW Display key near the ring aerial on the steering column and then press the START-STOP button again.
   NOTE: Back side of remote key must be placed on key symbol (not the front edge).
6. Perform a function check. Lock/unlock the central locking system and then perform an engine start.

Data Transfer to New Radio Remote: 

1. With all doors closed, press the START-STOP button 3 times within 4 seconds.
2. Press center lock button and hold.
3. Press Start/Stop button.
4. Release Start/Stop button.
5. Release center lock button.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead.

Work time labor operation code 61 00 006 is not considered a Main labor operation. Also, since the "work time" FRU allowance to be claimed is specified, a separate punch time is not required.
