SERVICE INFORMATION

SERVICE ACTION: PROGRAM THE CONTROL UNIT (DME)

Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves approximately 17,454 vehicles produced from 5/13/18 to 8/1/18.

Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as "Open" when checked either in AIR, the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.

SITUATION

If a Valvetronic fault occurs, the catalytic converter heating intensity may be reduced.

This situation will not generate a customer complaint.

CAUSE

An error in the Digital Motor Electronics (DME) software

CORRECTION

Program the DME using ISTA 4.13.2x or higher

PROCEDURE

For conditions that are similar to the situation described:

Perform diagnosis with the latest version of ISTA
Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.13.2x or higher to the appropriate level shown below:

F30 PHEV (330e iPerformance)	F020-18-07-547 or higher

Note that ISTA Next will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply ( SI B04 23 10 ).
