Car Sharing Module

The Car Sharing Module (CSM) is a control unit with an ID reader for private and joint car sharing.

The vehicles can be reserved either online or borrowed spontaneously (green LED on the ID reader is lit).

The electronic immobilizer in the Body Domain Controller (BDC) control unit is activated via the K-CAN2 of the Car Sharing Module (CSM). The central information display, which is connected to the headunit, serves as the display.

Apps (Android) run on the Car Sharing Module for use by customers and as assistance for inexperienced drivers. These apps output car sharing-specific displays. Settings can be made via the controller (CON).

A card is required for customer authentication for access to the vehicle and release of the electronic immobilizer via the Car Sharing Module (CSM).

Brief component description

Car sharing module (CSM)

2 microprocessors are integrated in the Car Sharing Module.

One microprocessor manages the following interfaces:

The Car Sharing Module is locked in the base plate in the center console.

Additional cards (refueling, park, charging) are inserted in a holder in the Car Sharing Module and monitored by the CSM control unit. A label (RFID with 125 kHz) is stuck onto additional cards so that they can be monitored.

The Car Sharing Module is a further development with the following features:

ID reader

The label of the vehicle fleet operation is stuck onto the inside of the windshield on the driver's side.

The ID reader is stuck into this label.

The Car Sharing Module (CSM) is connected with the ID reader via LIN bus. The ID reader is connected via a 4-pin plug connection.

There are 3 LEDs (red, yellow and green) on the ID reader which indicate the status for car sharing.

A card is required for customer authentication for access to the vehicle and release of the electronic immobilizer via the Car Sharing Module (CSM). This card must be held against the ID reader.

System functions

Vehicle behavior

Vehicle awake:

CAN messages are received. Communication on the CAN bus is active. The Car Sharing Module is woken via the K-CAN2.

Reasons that keep the vehicle awake:

Vehicle asleep:

CAN messages are not received. The CSM control unit no longer participates in communication on the CAN bus. Communication on the online connection is possible when the vehicle is asleep.

Reasons that wake the vehicle:

Notes for Service Technician

General notes

NOTE: A special tool is needed to unlock the Car Sharing Module.

Notes on programming

NOTE: After programming of the CSM control unit, the vehicle must receive access to the GSM network. Additional data of the vehicle fleet operator (e.g. DriveNow) is then loaded. Park the vehicle outside for this if necessary.
