Brake Release Switch Test
- Turn ignition on. Turn cruise control switch to ON position. Connect Tech 1 scan tester. Select C/C brake switch status mode. With brake pedal released, scan tester should read NO (or RELEASED). With brake pedal pressed, scan tester should read YES (or APPLIED).
- If scan tester reads as specified, brake release switch is okay. If scan tester does not read as specified, connect test light between ground and Gray wire of brake release switch. If test light does not come on, go to CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK chart. Refer to Figure - Figure .
- If test light comes on, observe scan tester status while connecting a jumper wire between Gray and Brown wires at brake release switch. If switch status on scan tester changes from NO to YES (or from RELEASED to APPLIED) when wires are connected, adjust or replace brake release switch.
- If switch status on scan tester does not change when wires are connected, check for open or short circuit in Brown wire between brake release switch and PCM, poor connection at PCM or a faulty PCM.
