PROM - Starter Motor Cranks Right After PCM is Replaced

Starter Motor Cranks Immediately After Key On When PCM is Replaced
(Use Updated PCM Calibration)

Models:
1997 Buick Century and Regal
with 3.1 L, 3.8L Engine
(VINs M, K, 1 RPOs L82, L36, L67)

Condition

Starter motor begins cranking immediately after key on when technician replaces PCM (Powertrain Control Module).

Cause

Internal to some service PCMs.

Correction

To avoid the condition use only the updated service PCM as listed In the Parts section of this bulletin. Program the service PCM with calibration obtained from the most current CD from GM Service Technology Group (STG).

Important:
Do not attempt to order calibrations from GMSPO. The calibrations are programmed into the vehicle's PCM via a Techline Tool Device.
