DTC B1422: Device Power MODING Malfunction: Testing
- If body control system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If body control system diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to BODY CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition off. Using scan tool, observe ignition switch parameters in DIM data list. If all parameters display INACTIVE, go to next step. If all parameters do not display INACTIVE, go to step 7 .
- Turn ignition on. If all parameters display ACTIVE, go to next step. If all parameters do not display ACTIVE, go to step 8 .
- While observing scan tool, turn ignition switch to CRANK position. If only RUN/CRANK and UNLOCK parameters display ACTIVE, go to next step. If only RUN/CRANK and UNLOCK parameters do not display ACTIVE, go to step 9 .
- While observing scan tool, turn ignition switch to UNLOCK position. If only IGN UNLOCK parameter displays ACTIVE, go to next step. If only IGN UNLOCK parameter does not display ACTIVE, go to step 9 .
- While observing scan tool, turn ignition switch to ACCY position. If only IGN ACCESSORY and UNLOCK parameters display ACTIVE, system is okay. Fault may be intermittent. If only IGN ACCESSORY and UNLOCK parameters do not display ACTIVE, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ignition switch harness connector. Using scan tool, observe ignition switch parameters in DIM data list. If all ignition switch parameters display INACTIVE, go to step 13 . If all ignition switch parameters do not display INACTIVE, go to step 10 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect DIM harness connector C3. Turn ignition on. Connect a test light between ground and inactive signal circuit at DIM harness connector C3. See Figure . If test light turns on, go to step 14 . If test light does not turn on, go to step 11 .
- If any other ignition switch parameters display ACTIVE when parameter should be INACTIVE, go to step 12 . If no other ignition switch parameters display ACTIVE when parameter should be INACTIVE, go to step 13 .
- Check for short to voltage in active signal circuit at ignition switch harness connector. Repair circuit as necessary and go to step 17 . If circuit is okay, go to step 14 .
- Check for open or high resistance in inactive signal circuit between ignition switch harness connector and DIM connector C3. Repair circuit as necessary and go to step 17 . If circuit is okay, go to step 13 .
- Check active signal circuit for short to another signal circuit at ignition switch harness connector. Repair circuit as necessary and go to step 17 . If circuit is okay, go to step 13 .
- Inspect ignition switch harness connector for poor connections. Repair connector as necessary and go to step 17 . If connector is okay, go to step 15 .
- Inspect DIM connector C3 for poor connections. Repair connector as necessary and go to step 17 . If connector is okay, go to step 16 .
- Replace ignition switch. On Bonneville, see appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. On LeSabre, see appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. On all models, go to step 17 .
- Replace DIM. See DASH INTEGRATION MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Reconnect all harness connectors and retest system. If DTC resets, go to step 2 . If DTC does not reset, system is okay at this time.
