10-Minute Learn Procedure

NOTE: If replacing a Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) module with a GM SPO Replacement Part, perform procedure to setup a new VTD module prior to 10-minute relearn procedure. See SETTING UP NEW VEHICLE THEFT DETERRENT MODULE  .

Use 10-minute learn procedure after replacing the following components:

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on lower left side of instrument panel, near steering column.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  3. Ensure that all power consuming devices are turned off on vehicle.
  4. Using a scan tool, select REQUEST INFO under SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM and follow instructions on scan tool.
  5. Disconnect scan tool from DLC and connect scan tool to a Techline Terminal with current Service Programming System (SPS) software.
  6. On Techline Terminal, select SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM and follow instructions on Techline Terminal.
  7. Disconnect scan tool from Techline Terminal and reconnect scan tool to DLC.
  8. Turn ignition switch to RUN position with master Passkey III ignition key.
  9. Using scan tool, select PROGRAM ECU under SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM.
  10. Scan tool must remain connected for duration of 10-minute relearn procedure.
  11. NOTE: On some vehicles, SECURITY indicator light may be illuminated for duration of 10-minute relearn procedure.
  12. Observe scan tool. After approximately 10 minutes, scan tool will display PROGRAMMING SUCCESSFUL, TURN OFF IGNITION. Vehicle is now ready to relearn key information and/or passwords on next ignition switch transition from OFF to RUN positions.
  13. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Wait 5 seconds.
  14. With master Passkey III ignition key, start vehicle. VTD module has now learned key transponder information and PCM has now learned fuel continue password.
  15. WARNING: Perform this step only on vehicles with export configured VTD module.
  16. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Wait a minimum of 15 seconds.
  17. WARNING: Perform this step only on vehicles with export configured VTD module.
  18. With a second master Passkey III ignition key, start vehicle. VTD module has now learned second master Passkey III key transponder information.
  19. Using scan tool, clear DTCs.
