30-Minute Relearn Procedure

NOTE: This procedure is not available on vehicles equipped with option code Z49.

NOTE: If replacing a Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) module with a GM SPO Replacement Part, perform procedure to setup a new VTD module prior to 10-minute relearn procedure. See SETTING UP NEW VEHICLE THEFT DETERRENT MODULE .

Use 10-minute learn procedure after replacing the following components:

Passkey III keys.
Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD module).
Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

With a master Passkey III ignition key (Black), turn ignition switch to RUN position.
Observe SECURITY indicator light. After approximately 10 minutes, SECURITY indicator light will turn off.
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Wait 5 seconds.
Repeat steps 1-3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30 minutes.

NOTE: VTD learns key transponder information and/or passwords on ignition switch transitions from OFF to CRANK positions. Ignition switch must be turned to OFF position before attempting to start vehicle.

With a master Passkey III ignition key, start vehicle. VTD has now learned key transponder information and PCM has now learned fuel continue password.
Using scan tool, clear DTCs.
