Remote Programming

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  2. Connect Tech 2 scan tool scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on lower left side of instrument panel, near steering column.
  3. Turn ignition switch to ON position.
  4. Turn off all vehicle accessories.
  5. Using Tech 2 scan tool, select SERVICE PROGRAMMING.
  6. Identify vehicle information as requested by Tech 2 scan tool.
  7. Select type of module to be programmed.
  8. Select type of programming to be performed.
  9. Verify displayed Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) with vehicle VIN. If displayed VIN does not match actual VIN, write down actual VIN and correct VIN at Techline terminal.
  10. When complete, exit Service Programming.
  11. Turn off Tech 2 scan tool and disconnect Tech 2 scan tool from vehicle.
  12. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  13. Connect Tech 2 scan tool to Techline terminal.
  14. Select SERVICE PROGRAMMING.
  15. Select Tech 2 scan tool (if available) as Tech 2 scan tool being used
  16. Select type of programming to be performed.
  17. Verify displayed VIN with vehicle VIN. Correct VIN as necessary.
  18. Select type of module to be programmed.
  19. Identify type of programming to be performed from the following:
    • NORMAL. This type of programming is for updating an existing calibration or programming a new controller.
    • VEHICLE CONFIGURATION INDEX (VCI). Techline Customer Support center will need to be contacted to use this option. This selection is used if vehicle VIN is unavailable or not recognized by Techline terminal.
    • RECONFIGURE. This selection is used to reconfigure a vehicle, such as tire size and axle ratio changes.
  20. Select appropriate calibration file.
  21. Ensure all connections are secure.
  22. Select REPROG to initiate download of new calibration to Tech 2 scan tool.
  23. After download is complete, turn off Tech 2 scan tool.
  24. Disconnect Tech 2 scan tool from Techline terminal.
  25. Connect Tech 2 scan tool to DLC.
  26. Turn on Tech 2 scan tool.
  27. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
  28. Select SERVICE PROGRAMMING.
    29. CAUTION: DO NOT turn ignition switch to OFF position if programming procedure is interrupted or unsuccessful. Ensure all PCM and DLC connections are secure and Techline operating software is up to date. Attempt to reprogram PCM. If PCM cannot be programmed, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  29. Select Program.
  30. After download is complete, exit SERVICE PROGRAMMING.
  31. Turn ignition switch to OFF position for 30 seconds.
  32. Turn off Tech 2 scan tool.
  33. If a PCM is replaced, the following service procedures must be performed:
    • Crankshaft Position (CKP) system variation learn procedure. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION..
    • Oil life system resetting.
    • Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) complete system set procedure. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
    • Programming theft deterrent components. See PROGRAMMING THEFT DETERRENT COMPONENTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - BONNEVILLE & LESABRE article.
